Miriam A. Knoll, MD, joined Northwell Health in 2024 as a radiation oncologist. She is also a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.After attending NYU Grossman School of Medicine, she completed a residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, before working at the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center and Montefiore Nyack Hospital. She chose cancer care as a specialty in large part because she saw how collaborative that process needs to be for strong patient outcomes.I love working with a radiation oncology team, because that's truly what each patient needs, she says. Each of us contributes expertise and a different perspective, and that adds up to well-rounded care for each patient. At Northwell, Dr. Knoll's main focus is providing palliative radiation treatment. She communicates to patients how effective treatment can be for treating pain, and with far fewer side effects than many might expect. This type of therapy can really make a difference in helping people feel better, no matter where they are in their cancer journey. In addition to direct care, Dr. Knoll has worked to advance the field and to broaden patient knowledge and access by co-founding and serving at CEO of the Jewish Orthodox Women's Medical Association (JOWMA), as well as publishing articles in both academic journals and consumer publications such as JAMA Oncology, IJROBP, Advances in Radiation Oncology, Huffington Post and Forbes. She is an international speaker and writer focusing on medical care, the physician workforce, women in medicine, and social media in medicine. Dr. Knoll serves on national cancer committees at American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, NRG Oncology, and the RTOG Foundation. She serves as a section editor for the journal Advances in Radiation Oncology.Over the course of her career, Dr. Knoll has learned from patients how valuable it is for those going through cancer to have a robust support system around them. That means family and friends and other patients, as well as a cancer care medical team.Ultimately, there are aspects of cancer that we can't control, although we step in and do as much as we can, she says. What we can control is offering as much support as possible so patients can draw on their own resilience for treatment. I see my role as being there for each patient on a personal level, while helping advance research and oncology care in a broader way. Dr. Knoll is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma. She is also highly rated in 1 other condition, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, Pleuropulmonary Blastoma, and Posterior Fossa Tumor. Dr. Knoll is board certified in American Board Of Radiology/Radiation Oncology.

"Andrew Salama, DDS, MD, is the chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center at Northwell. He specializes in head and neck cancer and microvascular reconstruction.Dr. Salama's path toward his specialty actually began in the waiting room of his oral and maxillofacial surgeon, when he was preparing to get his wisdom teeth removed as a college student. Amid the usual magazines were medical journals describing surgeries related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.""I thought it was fascinating, and that led to dental school,"" he recalls. ""On my very first day there, one of the oral and maxillofacial faculty presented a lecture on head and neck cancer, and I remember thinking, 'I want to do that.' It seemed like a dynamic specialty with evidence-based practice, and also one that offered the opportunity to build strong and longitudinal doctor-patient relationships.""After graduating from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1999, Dr. Salama attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating in 2002. He did his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and then completed a two-year fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery. He remained on faculty for four years before moving to Boston as the director of maxillofacial oncology at Boston University Medical Center. After 11 years in Boston, he joined Northwell in July 2021 with the aim of blending his leadership skills with patient care.""Surgeons only spend about 15 to 20% of their time actually performing surgery, which means it's crucial to find activity that makes the other 80% of time meaningful,"" Dr. Salama explains. ""People simply like working at Northwell; it's a happy place that provides high-quality health care. I came here because it's a supportive environment that is dedicated to positive patient outcomes.""Although Dr. Salama enjoys keeping up with the innovations in his field and drawing on the collaborative environment within Northwell, what he appreciates most in his role are the connections he makes with patients.""There's magic there, when you're working together toward better health,"" he says. ""The relationship and trust between doctors and patients is a large part of what meaningful health care is about. Interacting with patients and their families, and finding solutions to their problems, is what makes me excited to come in every day.""". Dr. Salama is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma. He is also highly rated in 12 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Tongue Cancer, Ewing Sarcoma, Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Osteotomy, and Glossectomy. Dr. Salama is board certified in American Board Of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

What is the definition of Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma?

Squamous cell skin carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that most often appears on areas of the skin exposed to the sun, such as the scalp, ears, lips, and backs of hands. Squamous cell skin carcinoma can also appear inside the mouth, on the genitals, and on the underside of the feet.

When should I see a Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctor near Lake Success, NY?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctor near Lake Success, NY?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctors near Lake Success, NY?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctors near Lake Success, NY?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctor near Lake Success, NY?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Squamous Cell Skin Carcinoma doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.
